Global naming trends: unusual names
Here are reports on two naming trends--one from the U.S. and another from China.
The first article, US babies get global brand names, decribes an unusual trend in the U.S. Americans are naming their children after big brand names such as Canon, Timberland, and Armani. Two little boys have even been named after the TV sports channel, ESPN. Imagine naming a baby ESPN, Chevrolet, or L'Oreal!
The second one, China Youth Take Names From West: Hi Medusa!, describes a surprising naming trend in China. Young people in China are choosing English names for themselves, not names like David or Amy, but names inspired by sports, cultureā¦even English dictionaries. They are coming up with unusual names for themselves such as Echo, Feeling, or Medusa!
What do you think of these naming trends? Do you know of any other unusual naming trends? Post a comment.
Some people are naming their children Armani, ESPN, Chevrolet and Medusa. Maybe some people have the names of heroes like Superman and Spiderman, but this is really ridiculous. A person's name is valuable, and he keeps his name until he dies. A name has a deep meaning. For this reason, it cannot be a brand name or the name of a movie. Let's rethink about the meaning of a name.

I think the U.S. naming trend is not good. These names are not special; they are just brand names, so they don't have special meanings. Also, I think I have to give good names to my children. Nowadays, some Korean parents use just two names; for example, they choose names like Bin Han. We can say this is a naming trend in Korea.

This is not good. I think babies' names should be based on their language. If everybody has an English name, it will be not interesting. An English name is easy for many people to remember, but the people who have English names and are using other people's language can lose their sense of identity with their own country.

Even though the world is being stylistic, a person's name has to be serious. In Korea, a person's name is very important for the person's future. That's because Koreans' names have their own valuable meaning.

Nowadays, all of the world are closing more and more, so global naming trend is reasonable. However, always we should delibrate on making a global name, because name can decide people's character.

A name has value in itself. Naming children with brand names like Channel is the most stupid thing I've heard of. If you care about your babies' future, you must be cautious to make your child's name. It could change your kid's character, personality and future goals.

Nowdays, we can choose special names. I think that is a good thing because nowadays we have lost our personal character. We can't choose our last names, but we should at least have creative first and middle names. We should consider why we choose names. In my opinion, we should choose names that distinguish us from others. We had better make our names unique.
