I want to go back to another story, me at age 12. Back to my Mom and Dad again. Seems as though they were always gone again! They had gone shopping and came home with this beautiful burnt orange flat crepe material, pattern, thread and all to make me a dress.
Then they left again, going somewhere. Well, that was all I needed. I got the pattern out and read all the directions. I thought, "I can do this!" Aren't kids crazy? Anyway, I laid the material out and put the pattern on it, as instructed.
I had just finished cutting and had it all ready to start sewing when in walked Mom and Dad! Was she ever mad at me! Her words to me were, verbatim, "Young lady, you started this, you are going to finish it, and you are going to wear it!"
I did just that, and I loved that dress! You know, I don't think she ever made a thing for me after that. That same year, in seventh grade, I took home economics. When all the other kids were hemming tea towels, I was making a blouse. I think, at least that year, I was the teacher's pet.
Dear Vera:
I just read your daughter's blog and learned of your passing. I feel very moved by her post about your last days--how alert, involved, and generous you were with those around you. I read the eulogy given by Anne's principal. What a vibrant life you led, creating and expressing yourself no matter what! Your creative spirit and love of knowledge shined through and you passed that on to your daughters. What a fabulous example of vitality you have given. I thank you for having been in this world and given joy and love to those around you--and I thank you for the example of love and indominable spirit I have received in knowing about you. May you rest in peace and may those you have touched carry forward your vibrant spirit.

I know I was always looking for a woman like this writing like this. The stories really touch me. I wish my grandmother just left notes like this, to feel a bit of her being, to realize how fast life is and how you must enjoy every moment. I can't describe how precious this blog is and how it touched me. Thank you Vera. I am so sad I am too late to let you know. But so glad I found you after all...
(sorry about my english, I'm from the Netherlands).

So many years since your passing. I'm sorry that I didn't know you when you were blogging . It seems strange for me to be making a comment to a blogger who is no more. I feel compelled to write and tell you how much it has meant to me to read about your life . This gives you immortality as long as your blog remains on the computer. Your friend Vera
